Ashley Rabin is a women’s apparel + accessory designer with 15 years of industry experience and a passion for sustainability.
From 2011 until 2020, Rabin was the designer for contemporary career apparel brand AMANDA + CHELSEA. When she joined the company, they had only been in business for six months, and so Rabin played a crucial role in developing the contemporary fit, quality fabrics and polished aesthetic for the “wear-to-work” label. In the 9 years that she held this position, she was responsible for the entire design process, from sourcing fabrics and making linesheets to creating tech packs and making all factory approvals.
Rabin’s passion for design started with a love for embroidery and embellishment. She began her career in 2005 by upcycling vintage clothing into one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
In 2016, Rabin returned to her roots and developed an interest in sustainable fashion. Her research culminated in her article “Desperately Seeking Sustainable Style.” Realizing that her wearable art pieces were also sustainable, she began creating accessories under the name GILDED-MANE. What started off as a collection of headbands, eventually expanded to include a complete collection of jewelry. Rabin drew inspiration from her own embellished apparel, and designed versatile pieces that can be worn all year, by women of every age and size. She uses reclaimed leather in her designs which makes the pieces lightweight and durable, but also helps to minimize waste.
In addition to her extensive work experience, Rabin has an Associate’s Degree in Fashion Design from FIT and a BFA in Film Art from Syracuse University.
